On 1 August 2026, the Hellenic Republic (Greece) became the 22nd Contracting Party to join the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP). The Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.) has been designated as the ReCAAP Focal Point for Greece. The Maritime Attache of the Embassy of Greece in Singapore, Commander H.C.G. Anastasios G. Asiminas, has been appointed as the ReCAAP Focal Point officer for Greece.
“Since ancient times, Greece has been a maritime nation. Perhaps more than any other people in the world, we have remained mariners and seafarers throughout history. Greek shipowners continue to lead the world with the largest fleet of cargocarrying vessels by Deadweight Tonnage. Greeks and the sea are simply two inseparable elements of life.
Therefore, joining ReCAAP as the 22nd Contracting Party is a natural development, which, I believe, will be very rewarding and beneficial for our shipping sector,” said His Excellency Christodoulos Margaritis, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Singapore. “As one of the world’s leading ship-owning nations, Greece’s accession to the ReCAAP will strengthen ReCAAP ISC’s information sharing network and enhance the fight against piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. The Centre looks forward to working closely with Greece and other ReCAAP Contracting Parties to promote maritime safety in Asia,” said Mr Vijay Chafekar, Executive Director of ReCAAP ISC.
