Osama Rabie Reviews Progress on Tug and Fishing Vessel Construction in Egypt

Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected the construction work of the various marine units being built for the Authority at the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company in Safaga, in partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the South Red Sea Shipyard Company. He was received by Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, CEO of the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, in the presence of a number of leaders of the Authority and the Company. 

This comes in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to localize maritime industries and strengthen partnership with the private sector. 
The visit aims to conduct periodic follow-ups on the progress of work and to review the latest developments in the construction of 10 “Azm” type tugboats with a pulling power of 90 tons, and 12 deep-sea fishing vessels. 

The tour began with an inspection of the construction work of the “Azm” class marine tugboats at the shipyard, where work is currently underway to complete the construction of 8 tugboats being built in parallel, following the delivery of the two tugboats “Azm 1” and “Azm 2”. 

Team Rabie listened to a detailed explanation from Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi about the progress rates of the locomotives, where the two locomotives Azm 3 and Azm 4 are scheduled to be delivered at the end of this month after the completion of the testing work, while the construction of the hulls has been completed for the locomotives Azm 5, Azm 6, Azm 7 and Azm 8, and in parallel work is currently underway to complete the hull work for the two locomotives Azm 9 and Azm 10. 

Then the head of the authority was briefed on the progress of the construction of 12 deep-sea fishing vessels similar to the fishing vessel Rizq 1, with the first two fishing vessels scheduled to be launched at the end of this December, God willing. 

Following that, the team inspected the interior finishing work of the new tourist yacht, which is the first production of the yacht factory belonging to the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company. They also followed up on the construction work of two tour launches and a river bus to serve the purposes of marine and river tourism. 

For his part, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie affirmed that the Suez Canal Authority aims to achieve an unprecedented leap in efforts to localize the maritime industry, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to work on meeting the internal work requirements of the canal and Egyptian ports, and to open the way for external exports under the slogan “Made in Egypt”. 

The head of the authority explained that the coming period will witness an increase in the volume of work in the construction of marine units in the shipyards and companies of the authority, in cooperation with the Suez Canal Company for Modern Boats, which comes in partnership with the South Red Sea Shipyard Company. 

For his part, Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, CEO of the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, explained that the construction of marine units, including tugboats, deep-sea fishing vessels, and cruise boats, is proceeding at an accelerated pace that exceeds the specified timetable, which makes it possible to assign more new construction projects during the coming period. 

 The CEO of the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company indicated that work is underway to finalize the necessary supplies for the construction of 6 new tugboats with a pulling power ranging from 85 to 90 tons at the company, in preparation for starting work on them during the second half of next year.
