The Egyptian Ship Repair and Construction Company in Alexandria announced the completion and launch of the Safaga 4 tugboat, which was manufactured by the company for the benefit of the General Authority for Red Sea Ports, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport.
A responsible source at the company indicated that this launch comes as a continuation of the success of the Egyptian Company for Ship Repair and Construction, one of the strongholds of the marine unit construction and repair industry of all kinds, in modernizing and developing the Egyptian port services system within the mandate of the concerned authorities to localize the shipbuilding industry in Egypt.
He added that the tugboat “Safaga 4” left the company headquarters for Port Tawfiq in Suez in preparation for its delivery to the General Authority for Red Sea Ports, as part of the contract for the construction and supply of 4 marine tugboats with a pulling power of 70-75 tons for the benefit of the Authority.
He added that this comes as a culmination of the fruitful and continuous cooperation between the two sides, as the delivery of the Safaga 4 tugboat, which is the second tugboat within the total scope of the contract, is considered, noting that the Safaga 3 tugboat was delivered before the contractual timeframes and is currently working in the service of the ports of the General Authority for Red Sea Ports with high efficiency, as it was built according to the latest technical and international specifications and under the supervision of the Italian international supervision authority RINA.
He stated that this type of tugboat is characterized by its high maneuverability and ability to accompany ships and perform towing and pulling operations, in addition to meeting the requirements of ship mooring and firefighting operations in ports, according to a number of specifications including total length 35 meters, total width: 11.50 meters, draft: 6.10 meters, pulling force: 70-75 tons, and maximum speed: 12 knots.
