Asyad Group and Ministry of Transport Join Forces for Suwaiq Port Development
Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology signed a 40-year agreement with Asyad Group to develop, manage and operate Suwaiq Port.
The agreement was signed by H E Said bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Abdulsalam al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority.
The agreement aims to develop Suwaiq Port as a key link in international trade, contributing to economic growth and positioning it as a global logistics hub. This aligns with the ministry’s strategy to boost the efficiency of Omani ports, expand import-export operations and attract new shipping lines to connect Oman with global markets.

H E Mawali said the agreement is part of the national vision to improve infrastructure through public-private partnerships, achieve economic diversification, and boost Oman’s competitiveness in international markets.
Key terms of the agreement include construction of a 500m long and 14m deep berth designed to accommodate various types of ships and cargo, including bulk, liquid, dry goods and vehicles. The project will also introduce advanced handling systems to improve operational efficiency and expand storage capacity to meet growing demand.
Additionally, the agreement includes expansion of Suwaiq Port to over 360,000sqm, reinforcing its regional competitiveness and supporting the growing local economy, particularly in food security. The port will continue to serve as a multi-purpose commercial hub, capable of handling various types of goods and facilitating new international shipping lines.
