Key ports in China have been busy in the first half-year
According to a report from Ningbo Shipping Exchange, Chinese ports handled significantly more containers in the first half of this year.
While shipping lines have been busy transporting containers from Asia to the main markets in the US and Europe, Chinese ports have also been busy, a new report shows.
Figures from the Ningbo Shipping Exchange show that activity in the largest Chinese container ports increased by a total of 8.5% in the first half of this year.
This means that 162 million 20-foot containers were handled during the first six months. For example, the port of Shanghai handled 25.5 million containers, which is a a year-on-year increase of 7.5%.

Of the eight major ports covered in the report, only Xiamen has declined, by 3.9%.
Attacks on ships by the Houthi movement have forced shipping companies to sail south of Africa instead of using the Red Sea, which leads up to the Suez Canal.
This has caused many companies to accelerate their purchases of Asian goods for the Christmas shopping season, resulting in extra work for shipping companies and ports.
