WinGD has secured a contract to supply main propulsion engines for 12 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) being built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China for Greek shipowner Dynacom, further strengthening its presence in the next generation of tanker newbuilds.
Each vessel will be powered by a WinGD 6X82-2.0 low-speed engine and equipped with exhaust gas cleaning (scrubber) and high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, ensuring compliance with IMO emissions regulations while delivering enhanced fuel efficiency, operational reliability and long-term environmental performance.
The latest order comes amid sustained investment in modern VLCC tonnage, as owners continue to renew ageing fleets with more efficient, regulation-ready vessels. The renewed ordering activity underscores confidence in the long-term outlook for the crude tanker market and growing demand for ships that offer greater efficiency, lower emissions and improved lifecycle economics.
The WinGD 6X82-2.0 engine combines proven operational performance with the efficiency and reliability required for today's tanker market. Its established service record and robust design make it well suited to owners seeking long-term operational value while meeting increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
“"For owners investing in large crude carrier fleets, fuel efficiency, reliability and operational performance remain key priorities. We are pleased to support Dynacom with an engine platform that has consistently demonstrated its value in service.””
