Inmarsat, the world leader in global mobile satellite communications, will be hosting two days’ worth of industry-shaping events at their City Road headquarters on 10 and 11 September, focusing on two crucial topics; the impact of digitalisation in international trade and the impact of technology on crew well-being.
On 10 September, Inmarsat will host a series of ‘digitalisation’ events. The day will begin with the launch of a new report into Maritime Start-Ups, followed by an LISW first – a ‘Launch Pad session for Maritime’ which will allow UK and global maritime start-ups to pitch to an audience of accelerators, ship-owners and industry leaders. This will be followed by a ‘Digitalisation in Marine Insurance’ seminar hosted by Insurance Marine News.
The afternoon sessions will begin with a keynote speech from world-leading futurist Gerd Leonhard, and conclude with a panel discussion on Diversity and Digitalisation in the shipping industry. Inmarsat will co-host this latter event with the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA).
The second day (11 September) is hosted in conjunction with the four LISW nominated charities, and will include keynote speeches and panel discussions from industry leaders as they discuss their thoughts on the impact of technology on crew welfare, with a particular emphasis on mental well-being.
The conference will be followed by ISWAN’s International Seafarers’ Welfare Awards ceremony, which honour the welfare heroes of 2019 (as nominated by seafarers) - see https://www.seafarerswelfareawards.org/.
Guest speakers across the two days include the IMO Secretary-General, the Cyprus Shipping Minister, the new President of BIMCO, and many more.
