Boluda Shipping celebrated a new milestone for the Port of Santander and for the hinterland of Cantabria and Castilla y León with the inauguration of a major upgrade to its facilities: a berth capable of simultaneously operating two container vessels.
The event was attended by Mr. Pedro Casares, Government Delegate in Cantabria; Mr. Eduardo Arasti, Regional Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade; Mr. Roberto Media, Regional Minister of Public Works, Housing, Land Planning and Environment; and Mr. César Díaz, President of the Port Authority of Santander, together with representatives of the port and business community.
During his speech, the President of Boluda Shipping, Mr. Ignacio Boluda, stressed that this investment represents “a significant step forward in the efficiency and optimisation of our intermodal logistics services, guaranteeing the operational window of the different regular container services and ensuring port operability.”

The new infrastructure will:
- Enable the simultaneous operation of two vessels, as demonstrated today with a Boluda Lines ship and another from its partner Samskip.
- Reduce transit times by up to 7 days between Northern Europe, Cádiz, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde and Senegal.
- Create new business opportunities for the region.
Boluda Maritime Terminals Santander expects to exceed 150,000 TEUs this year, consolidating its position as one of the most competitive logistics facilities in the country. “We face the challenge of increasing the Port of Santander’s connectivity by attracting new routes and strengthening the competitiveness of our industry,” said Ignacio Boluda.
The President of Boluda Shipping also expressed his gratitude for the trust of the shippers’ association and the constant support of the Government of Cantabria, the Port Authority and the City Council of Santander, whose backing is key to driving the sector’s growth and development.
With this new investment, Boluda reaffirms its commitment to Santander, consolidating the port’s role as a benchmark in port sustainability and in improving the logistics chain that serves the region’s business network.
