The Tanzania Zanzibar International Register of Shipping (TZIRS), operating under the Zanzibar Maritime Authority (ZMA), has signed a Recognized Organization (RO) Agreement with Lloyd’s Register (LR), effective 4 September 2026.
The Agreement, concluded in accordance with the IMO Code for Recognized Organizations and Resolutions MSC.349(92) and MEPC.237(65), formally authorizes Lloyd’s Register to undertake statutory surveys and certification services for eligible vessels registered under the Zanzibar flag.
The agreement marks an important step in strengthening the technical and regulatory framework of TZIRS/ZMA, while reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, transparency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in the services provided to shipowners and the wider international maritime community.
TZIRS/ZMA expressed its appreciation to Lloyd’s Register for its professionalism and cooperation throughout the process, highlighting the shared commitment to promoting safer, more responsible, and internationally compliant shipping.
