Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority, recieved a high-profile delegation led by Mr. Lertsak Pattanachaikul, Second Deputy Speaker of Thailand's House of Representatives, who was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand in Cairo, at the SCA's headquarters, Al-Irshad building, in Ismailia.
This meeting is on the sidelines of H.E.'s official visit to Egypt in the framework of fruitful cooperation and joint coordination between the Suez Canal Authority and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates.
The delegation included representatives from the Thai House of Representatives, alongside officials from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Cairo.
The meeting addressed potential areas of cooperation between the two sides, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange expertise in areas of mutual interest.
At the outset of the meeting, Admiral Ossama Rabiee emphasized that the Suez Canal continues to perform its role as a vital link between East and West and as one of the pillars underpinning the stability and sustainability of global supply chains, despite ongoing challenges in the region.
H. E. pointed out that development in the Canal zone has witnessed an unprecedented progress with the support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. In this regard, he noted that the Suez Canal has been keen to consolidate its position as a major source of national income by working to diversify its revenue streams.
H. E. further added that the Suez Canal has successfully localized the manufacturing of various types of maritime units to meet operational needs within the Canal and at Egyptian ports, while also opening up new prospects for exports abroad.
Admiral Rabiee also highlighted the introduction of a package of new maritime services designed to meet client needs under both normal and emergency circumstances; these include ship maintenance and repair, maritime salvage, water ambulance, pollution control, waste collection, and others.
During his first visit to the Suez Canal, Mr. Lertsak Patanasaikool, Second Deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, expressed his pride and interest in exploring opportunities to boost economic cooperation.
The Deputy Speaker highlighted the Suez Canal’s strategic role in ensuring the sustainability of global supply chains and praised the authority’s efforts in crisis management and overcoming various challenges.
He also expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority and to benefit from its extensive expertise in dredging and training.
H.E. Mr. Thanawat Sirikul, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Cairo, noted that cooperation between the two sides could extend to other areas, such as maritime and cultural tourism.
At the end of the meeting, Admiral Osama Rabie affirmed the authority’s readiness to begin practical cooperation in training through the Suez Canal Academy for Maritime Training and Simulation.
