Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Mr. Abdul Wali Sharif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kenyan company Tonasco, discussed ways of joint cooperation in the field of establishing and developing ports in Kenya, at the Authority’s headquarters in the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.
The meeting was attended by Engineer Abdel Hakim Zakaria, Director of the Companies Department, Engineer Ahmed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Timsah Shipbuilding Company, and both Major General Ehab Abdel Fattah and Major General Assem El-Safty, members of the Board of Directors of the Kenyan-Egyptian Company.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of establishing a partnership between the Kenyan company Tonasco and the Suez Canal Authority, represented by the Crocodile Shipbuilding Company, one of the Authority’s subsidiaries, through the establishment of a specialized company to work in the field of port works and marine construction in Kenya.
Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Authority, explained that the Suez Canal Authority aspires to open foreign markets in the African interior and to participate seriously in development efforts, based on the strategic interests and partnership relations that link Egypt with African countries.
The Chairman of the Authority affirmed the Suez Canal’s readiness to contribute to the development of the maritime infrastructure in Kenya and to transfer expertise in areas related to the maritime sector, port works, marine construction, dredging, building marine units, training, and others.
For his part, Mr. Abdul Wali Sharif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tonasco Company, expressed his hope for close cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority and to benefit from the Authority’s technical and human resources and extensive experience in various maritime fields.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tonasco Company affirmed that cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority is welcomed by the Kenyan government, especially with the Egyptian-Kenyan rapprochement during the last five years, noting in this regard that the coming period is scheduled to witness bilateral meetings with a number of Kenyan government leaders to put in place a general framework for cooperation and start the executive steps.
It is worth noting that Tunasco is a company with a local presence in Kenya and multiple infrastructure development projects.
