The Saudi Arabian delegation, comprising representatives from the Ministry of Energy and the Transport General Authority (TGA), participated in the twenty-second session of the Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 22), held at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, from 1-4 September.
Saudi Arabia’s participation was marked by a strong technical and negotiating presence, with the Kingdom submitting six key working papers that reflected its constructive engagement in shaping discussions and advancing practical and balanced solutions.
The Kingdom’s contributions emphasized the principles of realism and technological neutrality, while highlighting the importance of carefully considering the economic and trade implications of proposed measures.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Saudi delegation held a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with representatives of several Member States, providing opportunities to exchange views and strengthen cooperation on issues related to maritime decarbonization.
The Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia also hosted and sponsored a luncheon for participating delegations, reaffirming its commitment to fostering constructive dialogue, facilitating the exchange of perspectives, and strengthening multilateral relationships that are essential to effective international cooperation within the IMO.
Saudi Arabia’s participation underscores its continued active role in shaping the future of international maritime transport and working with international partners to advance balanced solutions that support environmental objectives while safeguarding the efficiency of global trade, energy security, and resilient supply chains.
