International maritime welfare charity Sailors’ Society is translating its award-winning wellness materials into Mandarin to reach the growing number of Chinese seafarers.
China is the second largest supplier of seafarers globally, but these crew have been challenging to reach with welfare support and training.
Working with industry partners, Sailors’ Society is now extending its services to these men and women.
Sailors’ Society CEO, Sara Baade, said: “As Chinese seafarers play such a vital and strategic role in the global maritime sector, expanding our work in this area has become a clear priority.”
Valles Steamship Company, Limited is funding the translation of Sailors’ Society’s My Wellness e-learning platform and Wah Kwong Maritime Transport is facilitating the translation of the Society’s free Awareness Campaign material.
“We are extremely grateful to our industry partners for helping us to deliver this vital support. Bringing instant access to our 24/7 support and Wellness at Sea toolkit for crew will have a positive and tangible impact on their wellbeing, while also providing long-term benefit to the wider maritime community,” added Sara.
The first raft of resources in Mandarin will be available later this year and the charity also plans to extend its hugely popular Peer-to-Peer Support programme with groups for Chinese seafarers.
