Qatar Ports Management Company “Mwani Qatar” recorded a remarkable operational performance during the past month of March, despite the security and logistical challenges facing the maritime routes in the region as a result of the American-Israeli war on Iran, and the Iranian air attacks on sites in Qatar and the Gulf countries. According to an official statement published by the company on the "X" platform, Qatari ports received 85 diverse vessels last month, reflecting the resilience of the infrastructure and the efficiency of the operational management in the face of exceptional circumstances.
Port handling volumes during March reached 44,456 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), in addition to 30,716 tons of general cargo, 40,663 tons of bulk cargo, 2,870 units of vehicles and equipment, and 10,000 head of livestock. Key operations included Hamad Port , Al Ruwais Port, and Old Doha Port, forming an integrated system that connects Qatar to global markets through transportation and distribution networks. Data from the first quarter of this year revealed clear growth indicators, with the ports receiving 552 vessels and handling over 291,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). General and bulk cargo exceeded 400,000 tons, while the number of vehicles and equipment units reached 24,600, and livestock numbers surpassed 75,700 head, reflecting the continued dynamism of commercial activity in the country.
The Qatari Ministry of Transport recently affirmed the ongoing efforts of the maritime transport sector to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the smooth flow of supply chains. This is being achieved through streamlining procedures and increasing port readiness, thereby supporting sustainability and strengthening the country's logistical role. In a statement, the Ministry clarified that Hamad Port continues to operate around the clock without interruption, keeping its gates open to guarantee the uninterrupted flow of goods and prioritizing the handling of food shipments and essential commodities.
These results come at a time when the region is facing maritime disruptions due to military escalation in surrounding sea lanes, impacting regional shipping and increasing demand for highly efficient ports. The ability of Qatari ports to maintain high handling levels despite these circumstances underscores the robustness of their logistics system and its integration with free zones and modern storage and distribution areas, thus reinforcing the country's plan to diversify its economy and expand its export and re-export base.
