The Panama Maritime Authority informs the country and the international community that, following the Supreme Court ruling declaring the concession granted to Panama Ports Company unconstitutional, the Panamanian State has activated a technical operational transition plan designed to guarantee the continuity of port activities at the ports of Cristóbal (Atlantic) and Balboa (Pacific). Thus, essential services supporting the global logistics chain will continue as normal.
The Government of the Republic of Panama, in compliance with the corresponding legal processes, will, in due course, have the specialized support of APM Terminals as temporary administrator during a transition period. APM Terminals is one of the most reliable maritime operators in the world, making it a suitable choice to assume this responsibility.
Panama, as the owner of the ports, guarantees the operational continuity of the national port system. These activities are proceeding normally, without interruption, and maintaining optimal levels of productivity, efficiency, and service quality for shipping lines and their clients.
We also reiterate the President's expressed desire to move towards an orderly and coordinated transition with Panama Ports Company, a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings, a globally recognized organization known for its strong corporate reputation. In this context, we trust in their constructive collaboration during this phase, for the benefit of the port system's stability.
The Panama Maritime Authority reaffirms its commitment to protecting the national interest, ensuring the continuity of international trade, strictly upholding the rule of law, and strengthening the confidence of shipping companies, investors, and trading partners worldwide. Panama will remain a reliable, stable, and strategic partner for global logistics chains, maintaining its essential role as a hub for international trade.
