The Directorate General of Seafarers (DGGM) of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and its Regional Documentation Offices (ORD) successfully passed the external audit of its Quality Management System (QMS) under the ISO 9001:2015 standard, evaluated by the international firm Bureau Veritas.
The result of this audit validates the operational efficiency of the DGGM, certifies the quality of its services aimed at seafarers globally, and supports the modernization process being carried out by the current maritime administration.
The evaluation was carried out by the audit team made up of José Rosas, in person, and Ana Elena Murgas, remotely, who examined the key and support processes that guarantee service to users of the Panamanian Registry.
During the audit, the operational management of the Quality, Certification, Labor Relations, Control and Compliance, and Training departments was evaluated. The performance of the Regional Documentation Offices located in the strategic ports of London, Miami, and Mumbai was also audited.
The process also encompassed institutional support units, including Maintenance and Cleaning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Custodian of Valuable Documents and Information Technology, demonstrating the integration and traceability of internal processes.
During the closing meeting, the auditor from Bureau Veritas, José Rosas, highlighted the maturity of the system implemented by this maritime entity.
“The ISO 9001:2015 standard integrates risk and opportunity management to achieve business objectives. It has evolved from a mere compliance system into a tool that helps the organization thrive and maintain customer satisfaction, an objective achieved by the General Directorate of Seafarers,” Rosas explained. He added that the identified opportunities for improvement will be documented and addressed by senior management.
For his part, the Director General of the DGGM, Felipe Arias, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to operational excellence.
“I am deeply proud of the entire team for their dedicated effort in successfully passing this audit. Verifying our compliance with quality standards further commits us to continue providing excellent service to our users both nationally and internationally,” Arias concluded.
