The Port Task Force (FTP) convened a meeting with representatives of the major shipping companies operating in Panama, with the goal of optimizing logistics processes and strengthening security controls at the country's ports.
The initiative sought to coordinate efforts between the public and private sectors to address common operational challenges, improve cargo traceability, and strengthen incident response capacity, amid growing pressure on the supply chain. This session is part of a series of events aimed at developing consensus-based strategies to streamline the flow of containers and other cargo through the Panamanian port system.
"The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of service that Panama offers as a logistics platform, with more effective controls, greater security, and a more effective fight against crimes such as drug trafficking," said Luis Roquebert, administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) . He also emphasized the importance of establishing a direct channel of communication with shipping companies, key players in the logistics chain.
During the meeting, ideas on operational improvements were exchanged, and critical areas for intervention were identified, with a view to streamlining processes, reducing wait times, and raising safety standards. The FTP has already held meetings with port terminal operators and will soon include government entities such as the Ministry of Agricultural Development, the Ministry of Health, the National Immigration Service, and others involved in the logistics process.
Sheila Hernández, advisor to the Superior Office of the National Customs Authority (ANA), emphasized that this is the first formal approach with the shipping companies, in compliance with the action plan promoted by the FTP.
This task force is composed of ANA, AMP , and other state institutions, along with representatives from the transshipment sector. Its mission is to ensure the efficiency and safety of the port logistics system through the implementation of advanced technology and the adoption of international best practices.
