The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” saw an increase in container throughput during May 2025 by 13%, with a total capacity of 720,684 TEUs, compared to 639,736 TEUs during the same period last year. Transshipment containers also grew by 12.89%, reaching 149,143 TEUs compared to 132,112 TEUs last year.
Imported containers increased by 15.84% compared to the same period last year, recording 292,223 TEUs compared to 252,265 TEUs. Exported containers increased by 9.38% compared to the same period last year, reaching 279,318 TEUs compared to 255,359 TEUs.
Moreover, the cargo throughput tonnage — including general cargo, solid bulk cargo, and liquid bulk cargo — increased by 1.40%, reaching 21,337,699 tons compared to 21,042,684 tons during the same period last year. The breakdown includes 935,932 tons of general cargo, 5,059,899 tons of solid bulk, and 15,341,868 tons of liquid bulk. Meanwhile, the ports received 1,635,489 cattle heads, marking an increase of 61.22% compared to 1,014,417 cattle heads during the same period last year.
Maritime traffic recorded a 9.39% increase, with a total of 1,083 vessels compared to 990 vessels during the same period last year. The number of passengers also rose by 68.15%, reaching 95,231 passengers compared to 56,636 passengers last year. Additionally, the number of vehicles increased by 13.09%, reaching 84,352 vehicles compared to 74,590 vehicles last year.
It is worth noting that Mawani also reported an increase in handled containers by 13.43% during April 2025, reaching 625,430 TEUs compared to 551,373 TEUs during the same period last year.
