MarineShaft introduces a custom-made mobile lathe for in situ shaft machining, designed to handle larger shaft diameters and significantly reduce vessel downtime. As part of the company’s continuous development of its mobile equipment and in situ service capabilities, shafts up to 1100 mm in diameter can now be machined directly on board or on site, an increase from the previous Ø800 mm capacity. This increased capacity is particularly valuable for tail shafts, where damage or wear can lead to costly delays.
By performing machining operations in situ, shipowners and managers can avoid disassembly, transport logistics, and extended downtime. The result is a faster, more cost-effective repair process that minimizes operational disruption.
Mobile Lathe
The upgraded mobile lathe is fully integrated into MarineShaft’s on-site service offering, covering the entire scope from inspection and repair to installation, alignment and supervision. Combined with an in-house logistics setup managing mobilization and coordination, this ensures a seamless and efficient process from start to finish.
The increased capacity and flexibility of the upgraded mobile lathe strengthen MarineShaft’s ability to respond to urgent repair needs worldwide, particularly when traditional supply chains or workshop access would delay operations.
With this development, MarineShaft continues to enhance its in-situ service concept, delivering complete, fast-track solutions where and when they are needed.
At SMM 2026, MarineShaft will present a smaller version of its mobile lathe at its stand, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the in-situ machining concept up close. Visitors can meet MarineShaft from 1 to 4 September at stand B1.EG.407.
