Lloyd’s Register (LR) and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have marked the successful completion of a comprehensive training and advisory programme aimed at enhancing skills, leadership and operational performance across Saudi Arabia’s ports.
The achievement was recognised during an official certificate presentation ceremony at Mawani’s headquarters in Riyadh, where 140 employees were honoured for completing a bespoke programme designed and delivered by LR’s advisory and training teams. The initiative is the most extensive single client training programme delivered by LR within such a condensed timeframe.
Over a six-month period, from June to early December, LR delivered 39 tailored courses for Mawani’s senior managers and technical specialists. Developed in close collaboration with the Authority, the programme was structured to align port operations with international standards and best practices, contributing to higher levels of safety, efficiency and competitiveness across the Kingdom’s maritime sector.
The programme forms part of a broader contract awarded to LR to enhance operational efficiency and global connectivity at Saudi ports, with both sides planning to expand their partnership through further advisory and capability-building initiatives.
James Frew, Director of LR Advisory, said: “Our partnership with Mawani demonstrates how LR can act as a trusted advisor to clients embarking on ambitious modernisation journeys. The scale and success of this programme showcase the dedication and expertise of our teams and underline our shared goal of helping Saudi Arabia’s ports sector reach new levels of performance and resilience.”
H.E. Eng. Sulaiman Al Mazroua, President of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), highlighted that investing in people is central to Mawani’s transformation and aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. He said: “This programme reflects our commitment to empowering national talent with world-class skills, strengthening leadership capabilities, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement across our ports.” He added: “Through strategic partnerships such as this, we are building resilient, globally competitive port operations led by capable professionals who will shape the future of the Kingdom’s maritime sector.”
