The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has issued Circular No. 42 of 2026, advising all Indian-flagged vessels, as well as foreign-flagged vessels carrying Indian seafarers, to exercise the highest degree of caution while transiting or operating in and around Yemen waters, the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and the Southern Red Sea.
The advisory comes amid the evolving maritime security situation in the region. Accordingly, the DGMA has urged shipowners, operators, Masters, and all maritime stakeholders to conduct voyage-specific security risk assessments, maintain heightened vigilance, and promptly report any security incidents or suspicious activities to the designated authorities.
Furthermore, the DGMA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of Indian seafarers and ensuring the protection of maritime operations.
