The China Classification Society (CCS) recently visited the Fujairah Free Zone Authority for discussions on developments in the global shipping sector, regional growth opportunities, and prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Strategic Maritime Hub
The meeting brought together Sharief Habib Al Awadhi, Director General of the Fujairah Free Zone Authority; Ou Boqian, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Dubai; and representatives from COSCO SHIPPING (West Asia) and CCS. Fujairah, located on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates near the Strait of Hormuz, serves as a key maritime gateway linking Asia, Europe, and Africa and has developed into a major global marine fuel and logistics hub.
Strengthening Economic & Technical Cooperation
Al Awadhi highlighted the growth of the Fujairah Free Zone, home to more than 700 companies contributing around 75% of Fujairah’s trade volume, with strong activity in manufacturing, logistics, and investment. Ou Boqian noted the expanding presence of Chinese enterprises in the UAE and encouraged deeper cooperation in ports, logistics, and industrial investment.
CCS Survey Manager Lu Wei presented the organisation’s technical expertise and global network, outlining recommendations on port infrastructure and ship services while reaffirming CCS’s commitment to advancing cooperation in maritime development, green shipping, and supply chain resilience.
All parties agreed on the strong foundations of China–Fujairah cooperation and its promising potential for further expansion in shipping, logistics, and energy, with a shared focus on sustainable maritime development.
