Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the preferred gateway for the Levant region and beyond, recently carried out a series of environmental and community initiatives as part of its Go Green Week 2026, held from 1–7 June under the theme "Healthy Ecosystems… More Resilient and Sustainable Business."
The week featured a range of initiatives organized by ACT's Environmental Committee, CSR Committee and HSSE Department, highlighting the importance of protecting ecosystems and their role in supporting resilient businesses and communities.
Throughout the week, ACT engaged employees through environmental awareness sessions across its facilities, focusing on the link between healthy ecosystems and sustainable business operations, while encouraging participation in green initiatives and competitions.
Building on this internal engagement, ACT organized a beach and seabed cleanup initiative in cooperation with government entities and environmental stakeholders. The activity brought together 32 divers, including professionals from the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army's Royal Naval Force, the Jordan Diving Association, and select enthusiastic employees of Aqaba Container Terminal. There was active participation of more than 100 ACT employees and volunteers, who collectively removed approximately 150 kilograms of marine waste from Aqaba's coastline and seabed, contributing to the preservation of the Kingdom's marine ecosystem.
Complementing these efforts, ACT also carried out a full-scale marine oil spill response drill near the RORO berth, demonstrating a high level of preparedness and coordination. The exercise was positively recognized by the relevant authorities for its planning and execution, underscoring ACT's commitment to safeguarding the marine environment while maintaining operational excellence.
Extending the initiative's impact beyond the workplace, ACT partnered with Zaha Cultural Center to host an environmental event for employees' children in a warm and engaging family-friendly atmosphere. The event featured tree planting and a variety of eco-friendly activities designed to foster environmental awareness among younger generations and encourage sustainable habits within the wider community.
ACT's Go Green Week 2026 forms part of Maersk's global Go Green Week initiative and reflects the company's broader commitment to environmental stewardship. ACT also continues to advance its decarbonization roadmap, targeting a 65% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2022 levels and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. Through initiatives such as these, ACT continues to embed sustainability into its day-to-day operations and community engagement efforts, reinforcing its approach of building a more resilient and sustainable future through an ongoing commitment.
