A €200 million investment will be made in the container terminal of Latakia Port. The sum will be devoted to:
- Expansion of the container terminal to accommodate over 1 million TEUs annually.
- Modernization and digitalization of port operations, including advanced cargo handling systems and integrated logistics platforms.
- Infrastructure upgrades to enable access for larger vessels with 16m draft and vastly improve operational efficiency and productivity through new state-of-the-art equipment.
- Connection to rail and road infrastructures to support fluidity and efficiency to facilitate the inbound of cargo to Syria from all over the world and hence increase the volumes.
- The launching and operating of dry ports throughout Syria is also part of the CMA CGM global logistics development plan
Through this concession, Lattakia International Container Terminal (LICT) is committed to developing, modernizing, digitalizing and expanding the terminal to meet growing demand and strengthen supply chains in the region to support the Syrian population. LICT plays a vital role in the economic connectivity of the region, handling around 95% of Syria’s containerized imports and exports. With its strong links by road and rail to Damascus, northern Syria, and as a key transit point to Iraq and Jordan, Turkey and the Gulf, it serves as a key logistics hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
