On 29 July, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources received a distress alert from the MSC-owned containership PUMBA after a fire broke out in its engine room near the Al-Hamad platform, southeast of the Egyptian coast.
The Ministry stated that it received an alert from the Marine Control Room in Gharb about a distress call from the containership PUMBA, owned by MSC. The ship had reported a fire in its engine room while sailing about 3 nautical miles from the Southeast Hamad platform, which is operated by the General Petroleum Company.
In response, authorities acted quickly and coordinated with relevant agencies. Several specialized marine units from petroleum sector companies were immediately dispatched to assist with firefighting and rescue efforts.These included:
- Black Panther locomotive
- Ocean Dahab tugboat
- PMS-4 locomotive
- Misr-Gulf 15 locomotive
As stated, due to the coordinated efforts of the response teams, the fire was fully contained without any injuries reported. The vessel was subsequently towed to a secure offshore holding area, safely distanced from vital operational zones and major shipping routes.
