The maritime industry is poised for a significant transformation as MASTECH 2025, the 6th Global Maritime Technical Conference, welcomed over 300 delegates from across the marine and offshore sectors. Organized by the Middle East Alumni of Ship Technology (MAST) in collaboration with Biz Events Management, this prestigious event served as a catalyst for innovation and strategic development in the maritime industry. The Middle East Alumni of Ship Technology (MAST) is a professional organization dedicated to advancing technical excellence and innovation in the maritime industry through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development initiatives.
The event was organized at Armani Ballroom, Burj Khalifa, Dubai on 13th February and was inaugurated with key note addresses from Mr. Saif Al Mazroui, CEO, Port Cluster Abu Dhabi Ports Group; Capt. Mohamed Al Ali, Senior Vice President, Offshore Logistics, ADNOC Logistics and Services; and Capt. Cai Liancai, Deputy General Manager, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co.
The conference's comprehensive program featured five expert-led panel discussions, each bringing together distinguished leaders from various sectors of maritime industry. The morning session opened with a critical examination of Dynamic Positioning (DP) Floatover Installations in the Middle East, moderated by Jolly Kurien, Vice President & Country Head of Qatar at Larsen and Toubro Energy Hydrocarbon. The panel brought together expertise from Sun Hao of COSCO Shipping, Zu Yan of DNV, Alan Wang of McDermott International Inc., Professor Li Xin of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Dr. Yuan Meng of COSCO Shipping's Marine Technology Centre.
Following this, industry veterans explored global shipbuilding capacity constraints with a focus on Middle East yards. Moderated by Ashik Subahani, Managing Director of Sea Delta Marine and Offshore, the session featured insights from Spyridon Lalaounis of Bahri Ship Management, Unnikrishnan Nair of ABS, Lars Seistrup of Albwardy Damen, and Terje Neraas of International Maritime Industries.
A thorough discussion on maritime logistics, moderated by Mohammad Jaber, Managing Director of DSV Air & Sea Abu Dhabi was next where distinguished panelists including Capt. Alex Brykalov from ADNOC Logistics & Services, Sindhu Dasan of NMDC Energy, Souren Gharnagharian of Australis Maritime, Abdallah Aamer of Al Hail Marine Services LLC, and Matteo Pollara of Allianz Middle East Ship Management LLC shared their valuable insights regarding the opportunities and challenges in the marine logistics sector.
Another highlight of the conference was the session on modularization strategies, featuring Vineet Bakshi, of Fluor Mideast Limited. Vineet was joined in the panel by Koichi Kaizu from JGC Corporation, Peter Rondhuis of Roll Group, Lynda Mcqueen from ADNOC PMT, Tim Killen of Fracht Group, and Jeff Dean of Mammoet.
The conference concluded with a crucial discussion on sustainability and regulatory updates, led by Dr. Abdul Rahim of Lila Global, Dubai. This forward-looking session brings together Ali Shehab of DNV, Jan-Viggo Johansen of MarineEV, Dr. Ibrahim Behairy of ABS, and Jasmin Fichte of Fichte & Co.
