Since its establishment in April 2013, MI LNG has been involved in the design and sale of LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers by Mihishiju Corporation and Imabari Shipbuilding. In July 2023, in addition to the conventional operations, Nippon Shipyard Co., Ltd. (President: Kiyoshi Higaki; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "Nihon Shipyard") agreed to undertake design work for general merchant ships other than LNG carriers, and started these operations.
In the shipping industry, where decarbonization is accelerating, demand for the construction of LNG-fueled vessels, one of the low-carbon fuels, is growing, and demand for ships that use low-environmental fuels such as methanol and ammonia is also in full swing.
MILES, which will be restarted as a new company name, will be involved in the development and design of liquefied CO2 carriers (LCO2 carriers), which are expected to increase in demand in the future, in addition to the functional design of a general merchant vessel that uses these alternative fuels.
