The Panamanian-flagged oil tanker Nestos (IMO 9417464) played a key role in the search and rescue operation of a vessel in distress, in coordination with the Greek Coast Guard.

According to the communication from the Designated Person Ashore (DPA), the Nestos responded immediately to the call from the Greek authorities, demonstrating impeccable readiness and commitment in emergency situations.

Thanks to the efficient actions of the crew, 73 survivors were successfully rescued and received comprehensive care on board, including medical assistance, food, water and shelter.

For Panama, maritime safety remains an absolute priority, in strict compliance with Rule 33 of Chapter V of the SOLAS Convention. This act reaffirms the Panamanian Registry's commitment to the protection of human life at sea, supported by efficient procedures and highly trained personnel to respond quickly and effectively in critical situations.

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) congratulates the crew of the Nestos for their heroism and humanity in this operation carried out on November 29, 2024. It also reiterates its commitment to compliance with international and national maritime regulations, ensuring human life in navigation and the protection of the marine environment.
