Connecting digital twins – DT Hub and DNV collaborate to drive energy industry innovation
The DT Hub and DNV are working together to connect digital twins across the energy sector for the benefit of industry and society.
The Digital Twin (DT) Hub and DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, have joined forces to connect digital twins across the energy sector, aiming to revolutionise industry practices for the benefit of society.
DNV is playing a crucial role within the energy sector, rising to meet its challenges around achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. It believes this can only be achieved through digitalizing and connecting the UK’s energy system via smart data-driven systems, such as connected digital twins. DNV provides digital twin and AI assurance services aimed at enabling the energy industry and its stakeholders to manage digital risk and complexity with confidence. It launched the sector’s first recommended practice on how to assure a digital twin in 2021 and since then has been developing cyber-physical infrastructure testing capability at its Spadeadam test site in Cumbria, UK.
This purpose-led collaboration marks a significant milestone in the DT Hub’s mission to foster community collaborations and expand its role as a knowledge-sharing body within the digital twin ecosystem.

The DT Hub considers digital twins and interoperable, connected digital twins to be significant tools for fighting the global systemic challenges – challenges like pandemics, climate change and resilience. They are key enablers for ensuring better outcomes for people and nature through a collaborative and coordinated approach to problem-solving.
The Hub also recognizes that new innovations and community collaborations are critical drivers for change. It has been supporting the digital twin community since its inception in 2020 – showcasing industry solutions and enabling knowledge sharing – living and breathing its motto: learning by doing, progressing through sharing.
With DNV’s support, the Hub believes it can bring about greater impact and value, highlighting digital connectivity within energy and across adjacent sectors where learnings can be applied. DNV is already providing it with unique insights into how collective innovation can help to de-risk our future energy outlook, as we transition to more sustainable sources of energy. De-risking the energy transition is a theme explored through the DT Hub’s new Gemini Firebox Programme.
