At SMM Hamburg, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) unveiled a groundbreaking advancement in maritime engineering, with the debut of the world’s largest container ship, the GREEN SEALION 27500.

This massive vessel, boasting an unprecedented capacity of 27,500 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU), marks a new milestone. The GREEN SEALION 27500 is a dual-fuel vessel powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), meeting IMO Phase III carbon reduction standards and setting a benchmark for eco-friendly marine transport.

The ship not only maximizes cargo capacity but also features a highly optimized hull design to enhance fuel efficiency. It can achieve zero emissions while docked, thanks to its integration with shore power systems.  In addition to the 27,500 TEU container ship, CSSC revealed a suite of other innovative vessel designs. These include:

  • The GREEN SEALION 20000, a 20,000 TEU ammonia dual-fuel container ship, which represents a leap forward in green technology by utilizing ammonia, an alternative fuel, to significantly cut down emissions.
  • The GREEN SEALION 16000, a 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship, designed with enhanced energy efficiency and a wide-body structure to optimize cargo space while reducing the environmental impact.
  • Two advanced liquefied gas carriers: a 103,000 cubic meter Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) and a 93,000 cubic meter Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC), both built for transporting LPG, ethane, and ammonia with state-of-the-art propulsion and energy-saving systems.
