The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (the Center) and the Chilean Ministries of Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to focus on the development of green corridors.
Earlier, in the spring of 2022, the two parties announced the Chilean Green Corridors Network allowing for green maritime transportation of goods in and out of Chile.
More specifically, the project includes direct support from the country's Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Center believes that the Chilean Green Corridors Network demonstrates effective collaboration between private and public sectors, which is critical for maritime decarbonisation and to enable the green transition on a global scale.
Chile is highly dependent on domestic as well as international maritime transport due to the country’s geography. In fact, in November 2021, the country was among the first to sign the Clydebank Declaration to support the establishment of green shipping corridors.
Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, commented, "The importance of a strong public and governmental drive behind the maturation of the green corridors cannot be overemphasised."
He went on to point out that "Chile is a true pioneering country in this respect, and the Center is delighted to sign this Memorandum of Understanding to further strengthen our collaboration."
