Korean Register (KR) – an IACS member classification society – has opened a new ICT (information communications technology) Center to dramatically enhance the application of advanced information and ICT across the maritime and ship classification industries.

Effective 7 March 2016, Dr. Toshiyuki Shigemi has been appointed as Executive Vice President as well as Executive Director of ClassNK. Yasushi Nakamura has stepped down as Senior Executive Vice President, and has been appointed as an Advisor to the Society.

Bureau Veritas has gained accreditation from United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS), in their pilot scheme, to carry out assessments and verifications for compliance with the European Union’s Maritime Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (EU MRV) regulation.

After undergoing extensive assessments, leading classification society ClassNK has become one of the world’s first classification societies to receive accreditation from the UK-based national accreditation body UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) as an EU MRV verifier, effective as of 1 March 2017.
