Oman announced on Tuesday that it coordinated with the International Maritime Organization to establish a temporary maritime corridor for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the state news agency.
Ships wishing to use the temporary corridor must coordinate with the IMO based on coordinates provided by the organization and Omani authorities, the agency said.
The initiative aims to ensure freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway in accordance with international law and the law of the sea, which protect freedom of navigation without imposing transit fees.
