As Ukraine seeks to disrupt Russia’s revenues for waging war, it has hit Russian oil tankers and other vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, claiming on Sunday more strikes.
Between August 1 and 8, the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck 12 more vessels belonging to Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, Kyiv’s USF said.
In total, from July 6 to August 8, the Unmanned Systems Forces have engaged 218 vessels, including 134 in the Sea of Azov and 84 in the Black Sea.
The extent of the damages and the results of the strikes are still being clarified.
Shipping Telegraph could not independently verify the claim. Moscow had not commented at the publication time.
The Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (USF) are a separate branch of the military that consolidates all key unmanned capabilities of the army – aerial, ground, and surface-based.
Odesa port damaged, says Zelenskyy
Ukraine and Russia accused each other of attacks on Sunday, as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow was targeting global food security by striking Odesa’s port.
Zelenskyy said residential buildings and the port had been damaged by a strike.
“In Odesa and the region, repair work is ongoing to restore power supply to people after a brutal strike on the energy sector. All necessary services are involved, and the work will continue for as long as needed,” Zelenskyy wrote on X on Sunday.
He said, “Residential buildings and the port were also damaged overnight.”
“This is, in particular, how Russia is systematically waging war against global food security. As of now, eight people are known to have been injured. Everyone is receiving assistance,” he further commended.
