ShipIn Systems announced today its transition to ShipIn Systems, PBC, becoming the first maritime technology company to organise as a Public Benefit Corporation and formally bind its corporate purpose to advancing the safety, wellbeing and operational resilience of the global maritime industry.
The transition was approved unanimously by ShipIn’s Board of Directors.
As a Public Benefit Corporation, ShipIn is not governed solely by the creation of economic value. Its Board must also consider the company’s stated public benefit in its decision-making, anchoring ShipIn’s mission a formal part of how the company is governed as it grows.
ShipIn’s public benefit purpose, now embedded in its charter, is: “To enhance safety, wellbeing, and operational resilience across the global maritime industry through responsible, transparent, and intelligent technologies that protect crew, vessels, and cargo.”
Maritime shipping is responsible for 90% of global trade. ShipIn believes technology companies serving maritime have a responsibility that extends beyond the technology itself. The PBC structure formally binds commercial success and measurable benefit to the people and fleets operating at sea.

ShipIn will report annually on its performance against its public benefit purpose, creating accountability around the mission now embedded in its corporate structure.
The transition comes weeks after ShipIn announced a $52 million Series B financing to accelerate the development and global expansion of its AI-powered operational intelligence platform. ShipIn today works with more than 90 shipowners across 1,300 vessels and has analysed more than 2.5 billion hours of vessel operations.
The company will operate as ShipIn Systems, PBC effective immediately.
