The Saudi Ports Authority (“ Mawani ”) and MEDLOG, the logistics arm of Mediterranean Shipping Company (“MSC”), inaugurated the company’s integrated logistics center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with investments exceeding 150 million riyals, and on an area of 100,000 square meters, in a step that reflects the size of the development witnessed by the transport and logistics sector in the Kingdom, and enhances its position as a global logistics center.
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has named one of its international vessels after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This coincides with the 30th anniversary of the company's operations in Saudi Arabia.
Minister of Transport and Logistics and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Ports, Engineer Saleh Al-Jasser, said that the inauguration of the integrated logistics center reflects the qualitative transformation in the transport and logistics sector in the Kingdom, and confirms the position of the Kingdom’s ports among the most prominent regional and international ports, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
He explained that the center contributes to providing advanced and smart logistics services, enhancing the port's capacity, and raising its competitiveness regionally and globally, which supports trade and strengthens the Kingdom's position as a global logistics center.
He added that MSC’s naming of one of its ships after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the inauguration of its logistics center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam represent a symbol of the long-standing strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the company, reflecting the great confidence of global companies in the Kingdom’s investment environment, and embodying the Kingdom’s growing presence in the maritime transport and logistics sector at the international level.
Al-Jasser explained that this partnership embodies a successful model of integration between the public and private sectors, stressing that the logistics center represents an important milestone in the development of the national logistics system.
For his part, the President of the General Authority for Ports, Engineer Suleiman bin Khalid Al-Mazrou, affirmed that MSC’s naming of one of its ships after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia confirms the Kingdom’s pivotal position in global supply chains, indicating that the launch of the center comes within the efforts of “Ports” to develop an advanced infrastructure that supports the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and enhances the Kingdom’s position as a leading logistics platform and a linking hub for the three continents.
It is worth mentioning that King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is characterized by advanced infrastructure and integrated logistics facilities that attract major international companies, as it includes 43 fully equipped berths, with a capacity of up to 105 million tons of goods and containers annually.
