Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected the construction work of the various marine units being built at the South Red Sea Shipyard Company, to assess the progress rates and implementation schedules, and to follow up on the work and preparation work at the tourist yacht factories of the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company in Safaga.
This comes as part of the partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the South Red Sea Shipyard Company within the efforts to localize the maritime industry and enhance partnership with the private sector.
At the start of his tour, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie was keen to inspect the two tugboats “Azm 3” and “Azm 4” and to review the results of the sea trials and towing maneuvers in preparation for the start of the handover and actual operation procedures. He also inspected the two fishing vessels “Rizk 2” and “Rizk 3”, whose hull construction work has been completed in preparation for launch.
The Chairman of the Authority was also briefed on the latest developments in the final finishing work that precedes the sailing trials of the new tourist yacht at the yacht factory of the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, which is a continuation of the tourist yacht building industry after the building of the “Nasr” yacht and the “Irada” yacht.
The yacht is 37 meters long, 8.2 meters wide, weighs 135 tons, and comes with a distinctive Sport fisherman design with MTU 2600 horsepower engines.
The head of the authority followed up on the construction of two voyage launches made of wood and fiberglass with a total capacity of 13 passengers per launch. The hull work has been completed, and the necessary equipment and machinery are being supplied. They are scheduled to be put into operation for marine tourism purposes in the Suez Canal.
Then the Chairman of the Authority listened to a detailed explanation from Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Red Sea Shipyard Company, about the latest developments in the construction of 12 deep-sea fishing vessels, as well as the executive schedules for completing the construction of 6 marine tugboats within a series of 10 marine tugboats of the “Azm” type with a pulling power of 90 tons, the construction of 4 of them has been completed, in parallel with the construction of two tugboats that are being manufactured of the same type for export to the Italian company NERI.
Lieutenant General Osama Rabie affirmed that the strategy for localizing maritime industries in the Authority’s shipyards and companies is progressing rapidly in light of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to actively participate in meeting the needs of Egyptian ports for marine tugboats and various marine units in the Authority’s fleet, in addition to developing and modernizing the Egyptian fishing fleet.
Lieutenant General Rabie pointed out that the results of the partnership between the Suez Canal Authority and the South Red Sea Shipyard Company during the past year were promising, as the construction of 4 marine tugboats with a pulling power of 90 tons was completed, in addition to the construction of a tourist yacht, in parallel with the construction of two deep-sea fishing vessels reaching an advanced stage in preparation for the start of the launching procedures.
The head of the authority explained that the coming period will witness an increase in production capacity and an increase in the rates of building marine units, which will enable expansion in meeting the needs of the local market and opening foreign markets for export under the slogan "Made in Egypt" with global quality and competitive prices.
For his part, Mr. Mustafa Al-Dajishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of South Sea Shipyard Company, explained that the partnership with the Suez Canal Authority resulted in the expansion of the company’s business, the development of the company’s capabilities and potential, and an increase in manpower, in addition to the establishment of a promising industrial entity through the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company, which aims to achieve a qualitative leap in the field of maritime industry.
Al-Dajishi pointed out that the South Red Sea Shipyard Company has succeeded in working on several separate projects to build different marine units in a new challenge that reflects the company’s ability to increase construction and manufacturing rates during the coming period.
