Amid increasing interest in wind propulsion as an attractive solution to decarbonization, French company Zéphyr & Borée announced a new project to develop the world’s first sailing containership.
The 1,830 TEU container ship will be equipped with eight wing sails and capable of reducing carbon footprint by 80% on a transatlantic journey, in an 11-knots-speed.
The same Nantes-based company has developed the 121-meter freighter ‘Canopée’, in partnership with Jifmar Offshore Service and VPLP design. The vessel will be dedicated to transporting the future Ariane 6 rockets from the European continent to Guyana.
