Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) has named one of its vessels “ESL KHORFAKKAN” in recognition of the strategic importance of Khorfakkan City and its port, as well as its growing role as a major maritime gateway connecting the Middle East with global markets.
The company stated that choosing the name “Khorfakkan” reflects the strong relationship it has maintained with the port since March 2019, when Khorfakkan Port welcomed the first voyage of ESL’s flagship GALEX (GLX) service. Since then, the port has continued to play a pivotal role within the company’s shipping network.
The naming comes as Khorfakkan Port’s operational importance within regional supply chains continues to grow. ESL has recently adopted alternative solutions through Khorfakkan, including cargo discharge and overland transportation, to maintain the flow of goods and connectivity with key ports and destinations across the Gulf region.
The company said that naming the vessel is a tribute to Khorfakkan Port’s legacy and contribution to regional trade, while reflecting the long-standing partnership between the two sides. ESL also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening this cooperation in the years ahead.
