Cool Carriers, the world’s largest operator of specialized reefer vessels, today announces the appointment of Mike Knowles as its Regional Representative in Tauranga, New Zealand.
Glenn Selling, Chief Operating Officer of Cool Carriers commented: “New Zealand (NZ) has long been one of the key global trade routes for Cool Carriers. Mike’s appointment reflects our continued investment in strengthening our capabilities across the region.”
“His extensive experience across shipping and logistics, combined with his proven leadership in complex operational programmes – including the successful execution of shipping operations throughout Covid-19 – will be invaluable as we continue supporting clients across Oceania.”
Mike Knowles brings 38 years of experience at Zespri International, the world’s largest kiwifruit marketer, specialising in shipping and logistics. This includes a decade based in Zespri’s Antwerp office where he served his final four years as Europe Operations Manager.
In that role, he oversaw discharge and port operations for all Zespri-chartered reefer vessels, working closely with partners including Cool Carriers. Returning to Tauranga in 2001, Knowles became Shipping Manager for Zespri, leading its global shipping function and played a key role in developing Zespri’s long-term shipping strategy, that proved resilient during pandemic-era supply chain disruption.
More recently, in 2025, Knowles supported the operation of the first kiwifruit reefer vessel to China powered by biofuel.
Commenting on his appointment, Knowles said: “I look forward to joining Cool Carriers at an important time for the reefer shipping industry – a sector undergoing significant transformation.
Cool Carriers’ strong market leadership, sector expertise and collaborative approach provide a solid foundation for continued growth in the region and I am excited to contribute to that next chapter across New Zealand and Oceania”.
