Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. has approved the addition of six new 13,000 TEU class LNG dual-fuel container ships to its fleet, aiming to renew it.
As informed, the new ships are planned as part of a broader strategy to replace aging and charter-expiring vessels in the 4,250–6,500 TEU range, enhancing the competitiveness of Yang Ming’s primary service routes. These 13,000 TEU vessels are designed to complement the existing 10,000 TEU fleet and are expected to become the backbone of the company’s East-West services.
Featuring energy-saving designs and LNG dual-fuel capability, they aim to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, supporting Yang Ming’s environmental goals and transition toward Net Zero.
Delivery of LNG-powered ships will begin this year, increasing the company’s low-carbon fleet ratio and strengthening its environmental competitiveness.
Yang Ming’s strategic fleet expansion aligns with its mid- to long-term objectives of a 124-vessel fleet, 1.25 million TEU capacity, and a 3.0–3.5% share of the global container market by 2032.
To remind, last October, Yang Ming Marine signed contracts for six 8,000 TEU-class methanol dual-fuel-ready container ships with Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd., Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.
