The MV Benjamin Franklin container ship, 400 meters long and with a draft of 17 meters, docked Tuesday around 7:00 PM at the Doraleh container terminal, becoming the largest ship ever received by the country's port infrastructure.
With a capacity of 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), the ship required the mobilization of four latest-generation tugboats, each displaying a fixed-point traction power of 65 tonnes.
“We are able to ensure the handling and maneuvering of large ships for our clients in our ports, thanks to the skills, know-how and expertise of our human capital,” said the president of the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (APZFD), in a message published on X.
For this operation, "the tugboats Omar Dankali, Barkat Hamadou, Farah Hassan and Saad Warsama were mobilized," he specified.The docking maneuver was carried out by a pilot from the port of Djibouti. The operation demonstrates the nautical and human resources mobilized by Djiboutian ports to accommodate very large vessels.
With its overall length of 400 meters, the Benjamin Franklin is among the giants of the world's container ship fleet.
