Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, affirmed from the Port of Beirut that, from the very first moments of the escalation, a decisive decision was taken to keep the port open and to work toward neutralizing public facilities, given that they constitute a fundamental pillar and a vital lifeline ensuring the uninterrupted flow of essential goods and underpinning both food and health security for citizens.
Rasamny stressed that food and health security remain at the forefront of priorities, revealing that a request was submitted at the onset of the crisis to operate the port around the clock, seven days a week, to accelerate container clearance and secure national needs, while confirming that current food security stocks are sufficient for three months.
Rasamny underscored that his field presence, despite the official holiday, comes in direct support of ongoing efforts, praising the tireless work of all stakeholders across ports, the airport, and border crossings, and noting that approximately 600 transactions were completed within the first three hours alone, reflecting a high level of coordination and operational readiness.
The Minister further announced the reinforcement of security measures across all vital facilities, alongside sustained contacts with international bodies, embassies, and United Nations agencies to safeguard and neutralize these installations, reaffirming that public facilities will remain operational to ensure the continuity of essential services and preserve the country’s lifelines under all circumstances.
