The Ministry of Transport announced a package of operational and precautionary measures to ensure the continuity of supply chains and enhance operational safety in the maritime transport sector, in light of the current regional challenges, in order to maintain the smooth flow of goods and the flow of essential commodities to the local market.
The ministry confirmed that Hamad Port continues to operate around the clock, seven days a week without interruption, with priority given to handling food shipments and vital goods, in addition to continuous monitoring of refrigerated containers to ensure the safety of sensitive shipments.
As part of enhancing operational safety, the ministry explained that human presence has been reduced to the minimum safe operational level, along with the implementation of periodic emergency drills and the strengthening of cybersecurity procedures, as well as the application of a policy of direct delivery of hazardous goods and their isolation outside port facilities, with a temporary suspension of the reshipment of some hazardous goods in accordance with International Safety Standards (IMDG).
She also pointed to a reduction in the number of hazardous goods units within the operational area, which ensures a reduction in risks and an increase in the efficiency of handling shipments.
Regarding the continuity of operations, the ministry confirmed that the port gates will remain open to ensure the flow of goods, and that customs inspection services will operate around the clock in coordination with the relevant authorities, thereby enhancing the speed of procedures and the efficiency of performance.
Regarding risk management, the ministry explained that alternative ports and routes have been identified to ensure the continuity of supply chains, in addition to providing dedicated facilities to support import operations and land transport through the Abu Samra port, while reducing operational closure periods during holidays to ensure the continuity of the movement of goods.
The Ministry of Transport confirmed that these measures are part of an integrated strategy aimed at enhancing the readiness of the maritime transport sector and ensuring its flexibility in facing challenges, in order to support the economic and food security of the country.
