Malta Freeport Terminals again welcomed one of the world’s largest container vessels, further demonstrating the terminal’s capability to handle the newest generation of ultra-large container ships.
Built in 2019 and part of MSC’s Gülsün-class fleet, MSC Sixin measures almost 400 metres in length with a 61-metre beam and a carrying capacity of 23,756 TEUs, placing her among the largest container vessels operating worldwide today.
During the operation, four megamax quay cranes were deployed at Terminal One North Quay to ensure efficient and well-coordinated handling of the vessel. Operating on the JADE Service, MSC Sixin called at the Freeport to load 3,020 empty containers – more than 6,000 TEUs.
Operations such as these continue to reinforce Malta Freeport Terminals role as a strategic hub in global container logistics, capable of efficiently servicing some of the largest ships ever built.
MSC Sixin is also the second largest MSC vessel to call at the Freeport, following MSC Mette, which has a capacity of 24,116 TEUs.
