The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the addition of Mediterranean Shipping Company's (MSC) new “HIMALAYA EXPRESS” shipping service to Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port, strengthening maritime connectivity, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and supporting trade flows between the Kingdom and global markets.
The new service connects Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port with 12 regional and international ports, including Colombo in Sri Lanka; Nhava Sheva, Mundra, and Vizhinjam International Port in India; Las Palmas, Valencia, and Barcelona in Spain; Sines in Portugal; Gioia Tauro and Messina in Italy; Abu Qir in Egypt; and Aliaga in Türkiye, with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEUs.
This development is part of Mawani's ongoing efforts to enhance the Kingdom's standing in global performance indicators and support the movement of national exports, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub and a key connecting point between three continents.
Jeddah Islamic Port features 62 multipurpose berths, a logistics zone for bonded storage and re-export activities, and a direct truck transportation system to and from the port. It also includes a range of specialized terminals and advanced facilities, including two container terminals and dedicated berths for marine services, with an annual handling capacity of up to 130 million tonnes.
