Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, and Major General Ibrahim Ahmed Abu Limon, Governor of Port Said, discussed ways of joint cooperation, in the presence of Lieutenant General Ashraf Atwa, Vice Chairman of the Authority, Dr. Amr Othman, Deputy Governor of Port Said, and a number of members of the Authority’s Board of Directors and leaders in the governorate, at the Port Said Governorate headquarters.
The meeting witnessed a discussion of a number of existing projects, most notably the project to restore and develop the Dome building, and projects to develop the ferry facility and increase crossing points through the construction of new floating bridges.
The Chairman of the Authority expressed his hope to enhance cooperation and coordination with the Port Said Governorate on several files of common interest, in order to activate the principle of partnership, which is reinforced by the Authority’s social responsibility in the three Canal cities.
For his part, Major General Ibrahim Ahmed Abu Limon affirmed that the Port Said Governorate is working to provide all aspects of support and necessary facilities to ensure the success of these projects, within the framework of its pivotal role in driving the comprehensive development process.
He pointed out that these projects are of great importance to citizens, as they contribute to improving the quality of life and facilitating movement between the cities of Port Said and Port Fouad, in addition to supporting current and future urban expansion plans, which enhances the governorate's position as one of the most important development hubs in the Canal region. He praised the fruitful cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority and its keen interest in supporting development projects within the Port Said Governorate.
Following that, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected a number of the Authority’s work sites in Port Said Governorate, to monitor the progress of work and to assess the rates of implementation of existing projects and the level of services provided to citizens.
The inspection tour began with a follow-up on the construction work of the new Al-Nasr floating bridge, which is being built to be parallel to the Al-Nasr floating bridge at a distance of 170 meters between the two axes, so that each bridge will operate in a separate direction.
The Chairman of the Authority was briefed on the project's progress rates, as the construction of the five metal pontoons that make up the bridge has been completed under the supervision of the Port Said Marine Shipyard and in cooperation with the Authority's affiliated companies.
Meanwhile, the civil works are being prepared in parallel by the Suez Canal Ports and Major Projects Company, one of the Authority's affiliated companies and the main contractor for the project, which is responsible for designing and implementing the civil works under the supervision of the Engineering Department. The company is also responsible for implementing the bridge's approaches under the supervision of the Authority's Works Department, while the Port Said Governorate is responsible for the road works.
The head of the authority directed that the pace of work be accelerated to complete the remaining work on the bridge in preparation for its opening in the second half of next May, God willing, stressing the authority’s continued activation of its service and community role in linking the two banks of the canal and contributing to increasing traffic flow in the movement of vehicles and individuals to link the two banks of the canal between Port Said and Port Fouad and supporting development and tourism activities in the governorate.
Following that, the Chairman of the Authority headed to inspect the ferry and dock area in Port Fouad, where he followed up on the development and modernization work of the ferry square. He also inspected the “Sinai 4” ferry after the completion of its development work and modification of its external design, making it the first of the ferries to be developed and modernized within the Authority’s ferry fleet, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to improve the quality of crossing services for individuals and vehicles across the various crossing axes and make it a suitable interface to support tourism activity.
Then the head of the authority headed to inspect the site of the new Port Said floating bridge project in the main ferry square area in the city center, which aims to enhance the connection between the cities of Port Said and Port Fouad and alleviate the burden of transportation by increasing traffic flow and increasing the crossing axes linking them, especially with the increase in the capacity of the floating bridge, which is equivalent to eight times the capacity of operating a single ferry, in addition to the ability of the floating bridge to reduce waiting time and work in all weather conditions, and what the floating bridge achieves in terms of fuel consumption, as one bridge consumes 5% of the fuel consumption required to operate a single ferry, which makes it more sustainable and able to meet increasing needs and keep pace with urban expansion and development projects in the city of Port Fouad.
The head of the authority followed up on the developments of the preliminary planning work and the surveying coordinates necessary for the design of the floating bridge. The bridge consists of a fixed upper part that allows the passage of small floats, and a floating part consisting of 6 floating pontoons.
The team directed Rabie to coordinate with all relevant authorities to finalize the studies and take the necessary measures to immediately begin work on implementing the project, which aims to serve the development and tourism plans in the governorate, as it is planned to include a commercial area in the Port Fouad area.
Then, the team headed to inspect the projects being built in the El Gouna area of the eastern Port Said branch, where they learned about the latest developments in the construction work of the buildings belonging to the Movements Department, which are being built to replace the administrative part of the Dome building, and which are being supervised by the Authority’s Works Department.
The construction work of the main administrative building belonging to the Movements Department has been completed, and it consists of three floors with a total of 60 offices in the different departments. Work is being completed on it to finish the interior finishing work and the electromechanical work. Meanwhile, the construction and finishing work of the administrative building for technicians and mariners has been completed, and the head of the Authority inspected it and praised the level of quality of the civil and engineering work.
Following that, the head of the authority inspected the fish cage project in the Al-Gouna area of Port Said, which includes the construction of 20 fish cages with a diameter of 12 meters per basin for the cultivation of sea bream and sea bass, with a total targeted production capacity of up to 120 tons of sea bream and sea bass.
The head of the authority followed up on the procedures that took place before the start of the project, which were the basis for selecting the site, beginning with taking soil samples for analysis by the National Research Center.
Then obtaining the approval of the Lakes and Fisheries Development Authority and completing the environmental study, and the head of the authority directed that the necessary procedures for farming inside cages be completed quickly.
The head of the authority concluded his tour by heading to follow up on the progress of work at the Port Said Company for Engineering Works and Marine Construction, one of the companies affiliated with the authority, which has long experience in building high-quality aluminum launches.
The head of the authority followed up on the construction work of the aluminum launches, where the company has completed the construction of 11 launches, and the installation work is being completed for 11 launches, while work is underway to complete the construction of the hull for five other launches, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
The team also reviewed Rabie’s progress in the company’s activities in the field of maintenance and repair of floating hotels at the company’s new site overlooking Lake Nasser behind the High Dam in Aswan, where the periodic maintenance work on the floating hotel “Qasr Ibrim” has been completed and it is scheduled to be put into the water at the end of April.
The head of the authority was keen to exchange conversation with the company’s employees and urged them to continue working to complete what had been accomplished during the past period, praising their tireless efforts and their success in achieving the required production rates according to the timetable. He also asked them to observe the procedures related to rationalizing energy use and preserving the authority’s assets.
