Iranian state media broadcast a video on Sunday showing a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy issuing a warning to vessels operating near warships in the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning them to keep their distance.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command said that two destroyers, the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and the USS Michael Murphy, transited the Strait and operated in the Arabian Gulf as part of a wider mission aimed at ensuring the waterway remains clear of sea mines.
In audio from the USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., a crew member stated that the vessel was conducting a “transit passage consistent with international law.”
In response, the IRGC naval personnel issued what he described as a “final warning,” urging all nearby vessels to stay clear of warships in the area and stating that the IRGC was prepared to open fire without prior warning.
