The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has announced the official launch of the Bunker Buyers Working Group, aimed at bringing together shipowners, charterers, and ship managers engaged in marine fuel procurement for end use.
The initiative has been established to ensure that the perspectives of marine fuel end users are clearly represented in IBIA’s policy development, regulatory contributions, and industry guidance. It will serve as a practical platform for sharing operational experience, addressing challenges faced by bunker buyers, and contributing to realistic solutions that promote a balanced, fair, and transparent fuel procurement process.
The group’s indicative areas of focus include procurement practices, fuel strategy, quality and quantity considerations, as well as supply and demand dynamics. It will not engage in individual commercial disputes or pricing matters. Expected outputs include guidance, industry recommendations, and contributions to consultations and regulatory frameworks.
Membership is open to shipowners, charterers, and ship managers. Both existing IBIA members and organizations interested in joining the association are encouraged to take part.
The working group will be coordinated by IBIA’s immediate past Chair and board member, Mr. Constantinos Capetanakis, and will convene online at least once every quarter. Active participation from all members is expected.
