More than twenty officials from the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine (DGMM) of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) received specialized training in Statutory Certification of Vessels engaged in international traffic.
The training, held from August 4 to 8 as part of the AMP 's Institutional Training Plan , was taught by instructors from the Chilean Navy's Directorate General of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine (DIRECTEMAR) and was supported by the Central American Maritime Transport Commission (COCATRAM).
The program seeks to strengthen personnel's technical knowledge of certification and flagging processes, in order to ensure compliance with international standards for the safety and operation of the merchant fleet, highlighting its importance for maritime safety and the protection of the marine environment.
During the training, participants thoroughly analyzed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) international conventions and codes to understand the requirements governing the issuance of certificates and the registration of vessels in accordance with global standards.

The program included a study of regulatory implementation, internal processes, and the use of IMO numerical identification systems, aimed at standardizing and optimizing procedures. The international reach of the Panamanian flag, a world leader in registration with more than eight thousand vessels, was also evaluated.
Frigate Captain Alfredo Teixidó Díaz, deputy chief of the Maritime Inspection Service of the Chilean Navy's Directorate of Safety and Operations, underscored the importance of the Panamanian flag in the global maritime arena, noting that the size of its fleet represents a major challenge.
Teixidó emphasized that the training, promoted by COCATRAM, seeks to support the AMP 's efforts to strengthen its technical and regulatory processes, reaffirming its role as the governing authority in the field.
